Because Stanley Park is a privately operated nonprofit park, planned portrait photography sessions using the Park’s scenery, gardens, flowers, trees, bridges, ponds, walkways, and landscaped areas as a backdrop may require a Photo Permit.
Permit fees help support the maintenance, preservation, and operation of Stanley Park for the enjoyment of all visitors. Park reservations and approval by the Stanley Park Office are required before issuance of a permit.
This policy is for photographers or video companies requesting to use Stanley Park commercially or for the sole purpose of using the park for photography. Issuance of permits requires approval from the Managing Director or designee.
Park reservations must be made before the issuance of a permit. Photo permit applications can be emailed to stanleypark@stanleypark.org.
Please Note: Proof of Insurance Coverage May Be Required.
A: Stanley Park is a non-profit, private park that does not receive any local, state, or federal funding or tax dollars. The fee covers our administrative costs to implement and enforce this policy. Any additional funds will help us keep Stanley Park beautiful and a desirable place to enjoy and take photos.
A: It depends; our interest is in covering our liability from commercial businesses operating in the parks. So, this comes down to your intent. If you come to the park to take some photos because that is a hobby you enjoy, then you are not operating a business, and no permit is required. Whether you sell an image, later on, is of no interest to us. If you are coming to the park to produce images for your business, then you are operating a business in the park, and the permit and liability insurance requirement would apply.
