Please join us on Saturday, August 17, 2024 for a fun-filled day to celebrate our 75th Anniversary! We have an amazing day planned with fun for the everyone. The festivities begin at 8:00 am and end at 8:00 pm. We can't wait to celebrate with you all!
75th Anniversary Celebration Schedule of Events:
8:00 - 10:00 Summer Bird Walk with Martha Kane: Some birds are already beginning to migrate. Let’s see what we can find and do an eBird count together. Bring binoculars if you have some. Beginners welcome; no experience necessary. Meet at the entrance to the Frank Stanley Beveridge Wildlife Sanctuary across from the Rec Field.
9:00 - 10:00 Sound Bath Meditation with Jolie Therrien: All are welcome to join us on the Acre Lawn for a Sound Bath Meditation led by Jolie Therrien of Hazy Cosmic Jive Healing. Be sure to bring water, dress comfortably, and bring an extra layer as meditation can lower your body temperature. You will also want to bring with you a pillow, blanket and/or yoga mat to lay on or a chair. Whatever you will bring you the most comfort and relaxation during the session.
9:00 - 10:30 Guided Park Tour: Meet your personal guide in front of the Carillon Tower who will show you the many inviting areas this picturesque Park has to offer. You will learn historical facts of Stanley Park as you stroll through the gardens. Unlock the secret of the Enchanted Oak. Take in the beauty of the newly restored Carillon Tower, which is a well-known landmark of the Park. Journey around the scenic route along the ponds through the Colonial-era Village. Take in the impressive Veteran’s Memorial before crossing over to the Tea House in the Asian Garden. We hope you enjoy your tour!
10:00 - 11:00 Birding for Kids with Hands on Nature: Come learn more about the local birds in your yard and how to start identifying them. Learn which birds are common in Massachusetts and which ones are fun to study! We will learn fun easy ways to get started in the world of birding! Begin the easy journey to learn more about these beautiful creatures that are an essential part of our natural world. We will learn a few common bird songs and will be able to identify some by the end of the program. Create and then take home 2 simple feeders to attract local birds with Hands on Nature.
10:00 - 12:00 Morning Forest Bathing with Todd Lynch: This two-hour walk meets at the entrance to the Frank Stanley Beveridge Sanctuary across from the Rec Field and consists of guided mindfulness prompts and a homemade herbal tea will be served at the end of the session. Limited to 10 people max, registration is required.
10:00 - 2:00 Classic Car Show: Come stroll along the access road by the Old Meeting House to see the classic cars on display.
10:00 - 2:00 Touch a Truck: Unique vehicles will be on display in the parking area along the rec field for kids and adults alike to check them out.
10:00 - 2:00 Home Depot Kids' Workshop: Stop by the Westfield Bank Children's Pavilion to complete a craft with the help of staff from the Westfield Home Depot.
10:00 - 3:00 Craft and Vendor Fair: There will be at over 75 vendors set up in the Rose Garden parking lot with handmade crafts, jewelry, candles and so much more!
11:00 - 12:00 Birds of Prey with Tom Ricardi: Join us in the Pavilion Annex for this program which will focus on conservation and species identification of Birds of Prey (raptors), such as falcons, hawks, eagles, vultures and owls.
11:00 - 5:00 Food Trucks: Food trucks will be set up in the Rose Garden area as well as by the picnic area across from the playground with multiple food options.
12:00 - 1:00 Living with Wildlife Presentation with Mass Audubon Society: Join us in the Beveridge Pavilion for a presentation on Living with Wildlife with Patti Steinman from the Mass Audubon Society. In the 75 years since Stanley Park was established, many changes have occurred in wildlife populations. We will hit upon that, as well as how climate change might be affecting animals.
12:00 - 1:00 Children's Hike in FSB Sanctuary with Mass Audubon Society: Come explore Stanley Park beyond the playgrounds and ponds! Join Mass Audubon teacher naturalist Kelly Walbert for a family-friendly exploration of Stanley Park’s 300+ acres of trails, woods, and gardens. We will meet at the Children's Pavilion outside the playground for this event.
1:00 - 2:00 Youth Yoga with Victoria Albert: Join us outside the Children's Pavilion for a yoga session geared towards kids. Bring a mat, towel and water with you to this session.
1:30 - 2:30 Carillon Concert: Stanley Park’s Carillonneur, Karen Ducharme, will offer a variety of musical selections featuring the electronic Carillon Bells.
2:00 - 3:00 Exotic Animal Show with Family Jungle Entertainment: Family Jungle provides an interactive, educational and entertaining exotic animal and reptile show which teaches conservation and nature appreciation. They will have 10 - 15 different animals with them for an entertaining experience for all ages!
3:00 - 5:00 SHOW Circus Studio Performance: SHOW Circus Studio will have rotating performances both on the ground and in the sky! Catch their talented team of acrobats, aerialists and stilt walkers from
3:00-5:00pm in the Rec Field by the Children's Pavilion as part of our 75th Anniversary Celebration.
4:00 - 5:00 History Talk with Bob Brown: Join local historian Bob Brown in the Old Meeting House to learn the history of how Stanley Park came to be.
6:00 - 8:00 Savage Brothers Band: The Savage Brothers Band is a six piece funkin', rockin' and rhythm group featuring a two-piece horn section who will take the stage in the Beveridge Pavilion to close out the celebration. The Bubble Mug at the Pottery Cellar will be providing the food service that evening.
