Nature Workshops

In a collaborative effort between Stanley Park, Westfield State College, and the Greater Westfield Community, in 2011, 7 Nature Workshops will be conducted in the 200 acre Wildlife Sanctuary at Stanley Park lead by local professionals in their field. Arthur O’Leary, Dave Lovejoy, and Janice Zepko are our field experts and will lead our workshops.

Arthur O’Leary graduated with a BS in Environmental Biology/Regional Planning in 1996, is a past Director and Vice President of the Naturalists’ Club. Arthur is an Advisor/Advocate to the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (formally the MA. Dept of Environmental Management) since 1998.  He is also a partner with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service since 1995.  

David Lovejoy is a professor of Biology at Westfield State College and is also the Treasurer of the Springfield Naturalists’ Club. He is the Author of “The Vascular Flora of Springfield, Massachusetts” which was published in 2008 by the Springfield Science Museum.

Janice Zepko received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Westfield State College in 2006 and is currently a graduate student in the department of Natural Resources Conservation at the University of Massachusetts. She is active in the Allen Bird Club of Springfield, serving as field trip and publications chair since 1995 and participating in a variety of annual censuses that monitor bird migration and breeding populations. 

All walks and workshops will meet at the entrance sign to the Frank Stanley Beveridge Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary, and will cancel if there is heavy rain. Bring along your field guides, binoculars and camera for a "Birds Eye View".
